SoHo And The Funky Sunglasses

Yesterday during the day, as I was strolling down the streets of SoHo with Bandana, visiting art galleries and checking out the creations of local artists on the streets, we stumbled across the path of a very peculiar old lady; Thelma Blitz. Thelma owns a stand in which she sells cotton crochet baby socks and hats. But what was really, really funky and so typical of Downtown NYC, was her collection of artsy sunglasses.

My personal favorite was a pair of pink plastic sunglasses with a line of heavy pink glitter rawly pasted on top with cheap glue, followed by a little rubber cat figure on one end and a light pink yarn ball on the other (No, I did not buy that pair.) Bandana chose a pair of green sunglasses that had farm animals pasted on the top part and I picked a pair of purple sunglasses with a mermaid seating next to a palm tree and on the opposite part a shark (Imported from New Zealand, according to Madame Thelma) both pasted on top. But the BEST part of our purchase, was that along with the sunglasses, came a paper with a deep, profound, intelligent and highly motivational message.

Mine, for example, is the one you see above.. "IF YOU'RE SO SMART WHY ARE YOU RICH?" Seriously, if I'm so smart, WHY am I rich? Can anyone find an answer to this question? Thanks. Check out her website so you get an idea...

Anyways, the sunglasses will be added to our collection and will be featured pretty soon on an upcoming NATAS production. Stay tuned!

Hugs and Kisses from the Big Apple!
